Collecting old typewriters is a hobby that has gained much popularity the past few years and finding vintage pink typewriters is both challenging and rewarding! While colored machines were produced from the early manufacturing days, not nearly as many made it to the shelves as the standard black painted models.
Fifty or more years ago pink was not a highly sought after color. Today it is very popular in designer fashion and just about anything vintage in pink is now in great demand. Years ago the typewriter manufacturers experimented with colored paint and these machines were put out in various colors such as red, blue, green, orange and of course, pink!

The Royal typewriter company offered a better selection of manual pink machines than other companies at the time. Models such as the Royal Futura came in various colors, including pink, as well as the Quiet De Luxe in unique bubblegum pink. These two vintage Royal models can still be found with a little effort. Another manufacturer of colored machines was Olympia. Their SM3 and SM7 are two models that are relatively easy to find in pink. Smith Corona put out some portable electrics in pink too if that's your preference.
So where can you get one of these little beauties? Try running an ad on Craigslist stating specifically Pink Typewriter Wanted. Many people have long ago tucked their old machines away in the attic but if they see an ad like that they will likely remember it's there and give you a call because the ad is so specific. Who would forget they have an old pink typewriter?
Check yard sales and the thrift stores in your area. If you are lucky enough to find one at these places then chances are you'll get yourself a fantastic bargain on top of a rare typewriter!
My favorite place to look is online auctions like eBay! Here you can find various brands and grades of machines suited for your needs and budget. There is usually one or two being offered on any given day. If not, just wait a few days and check back. It's very possible to get a bargain on this site if you are patient. Just bid the most you are willing to spend. If you don't win, try again on another auction. You will eventually win a vintage pink typewriter for your collection!
